Water Quality Modelling

The Kemess Mine is owned by Northgate Minerals and is located in northern British Columbia.

MEA developed a water quality model to predict surface and ground water concentrations leaving the tailings impoundment, the waste dump and the open pit during closure.  Input data included site water quality data and field bin kinetic test data.  Scale up had to consider the time frame for the prediction (ranging from 2 to 80 years in to the future) and quantities of materials involved (from 1 tonne field bins to multi-million tonne waste deposits).
